Wildwood Flower is a folk tune that dates from the time of the Civil War, but became popular after the Carter Family recorded it in the 1920s. It’s also a popular flatpicking tune. I wondered how it would sound as a fingerstyle ballad, and decided to reinterpret it as an aire. In addition to adding an introduction and some interludes between verses, I play the melody slowly and with a bit of artistic license to arrive at a very different take on the tune.
